New opportunities: it is no longer necessary to be unemployed in order to look for a job

The concept of having a job for life has been left behind and professionals choose to look for another path when their current company does not offer them to continue their career path.

Unlike the work dynamics that prevailed a few years ago, nowadays more and more professionals with stable jobs are encouraged to explore new horizons, not only in their area of expertise but also in areas in which they have previous experience to give a twist to their professional career.

These decisions occur when the employee feels ready to take the next step in his or her career, but the company where he or she works does not offer that opportunity. According to Murilo Arruda, founder and CEO of MyDNA, other reasons include the search for a better salary, a desire to face new professional challenges, lack of investment from their current company or a bad working environment.

“Workers used to only evaluate the role they had in the company and the salary, but now more factors such as flexibility, company culture, mental health or well-being come into play,” adds Arruda according to a MyDNA study.

According to Daniella Puémape, Outplacement Managing Consultant at Career Partners Peru, this profile is of professionals up to 40 years old with middle and high hierarchical positions. In addition, she points out that this is a trend that is presented with greater emphasis in the retail and consumer sector, as well as in the commercial, marketing and product development areas.

“These executives seek to promote their growth with a view to better job alternatives and enhance their professional profile to be more attractive to headhunters,” he explains. Some of the most suitable employability tools that allow executives to achieve an effective job transition are:

Developing an impactful CV. Adapting, updating and making a resume more attractive facilitates the transition process and also increases search options in a short time. In addition, a well-structured CV catches the attention of recruiters and that the worker is employed shows ambition for new goals and challenges.

Powering the personal brand. Showing what an executive can bring to the company allows him or her to stand out from other candidates while positioning him or her better in the job market. According to Puémape, the key is to bring as much value as possible to your professional experience through a differentiating strategy.

Strengthen networking. Another way to deal with the job transition that is practically a must in today’s professional world is to stay connected. Most job opportunities arise through contacts and it is important for the executive to have visibility to expand his or her networks in different environments.

Use social and labor networks. Through the use of digital platforms for employability, such as job boards or the social network LinkedIn, the professional explores new job opportunities, where different sectors can learn about and evaluate his or her professional profile.
